Yes, Omega Legal supports all the
standard electronic formats and integrates with various services such as
TyMetrix, Litigation Advisor and Serengeti. Modifications to the formats can be made
through a report writer; no need to pay us for those changes. Omega can
also develop custom formats for you.
Electronic bills are processed through the
normal billing processes in Omega Legal.
Omega is a member of the LEDES Oversight Committee.
Q.
Are your bill formats easy to
modify?
A.
The Bill Format Editor is
standard within Omega Legal. You can copy our standard bills and easily
modify them, including adding new fields.
Q.
Can we add our firm logo to
bills?
A.
Yes, using the Bill Format
Editor.
Q.
Can I reprint an original bill?
A.
Yes. A bill can be reprinted
either in its original format or in a new format at any time. Multiple
bills for the same matter can also be combined into a single bill.
Q.
Does Omega Legal support the
standard UTBMS task codes?
A.
Yes, plus you can add new codes
or copy the existing codes and modify them to create new codes.
Q.
Can I prevent attorneys from
seeing billing rates during time entry?
A.
Yes. Permissions for individual
users are defined in their user profile. User profiles are controlled by
a designated person at the firm.
Q.
Does your system support
drill-down capabilities?
A.
Throughout Omega Legal, you are
able to double-click on most transactions to drill down and get more
detail.
Q.
Describe your month-end closing
process
A.
Omega Legal doesn't have a
"hard" month-end close. You control the oldest allowable date
to close out a period to prevent backdating. If needed, you can reprint
reports for a prior period as originally generated or make adjustments
with automatic audit trails. Since Omega Legal is a date-driven system,
there is no work stoppage for month-end processing. You don't have to
wait until all the time is entered in order to generate reports.
Period-end reports can be generated at any time.
Q.
Can Omega Legal handle percentage
(or split) billing?
A.
Yes. Bills can be split based on
either dollars or hours with different rates applied.
What type of reporting
capabilities does Omega Legal have?
A.
There are four types of reporting
within Omega Legal:
1. More than 120 standard reports, which also include sort variations
2. Online data displays in sortable, groupable grids, which can be
printed or exported to Excel
3. Ad Hoc report writers
4. Any third-party tool can access our ODBC-compliant database. An SQL
tool is standard with Omega Legal.
Omega Legal uses customized menus
and toolbars so that each user organizes his or her own menu based on
individual workflow. The user then only sees the menu items that they
regularly use.
Q.
Can you handle cash or accrual-based
accounting?
A.
Yes, both. If your firm is on a cash basis,
you can also generate accrual-based financial reports.
Q.
How does Omega Legal support multiple
companies within one firm?
A.
An optional add-on module supports multiple
sets of books. You can either use the same tables and chart of accounts
or create new ones.
Q.
Can you notify me when a specific event
occurs, such as when a client pays their bill? When an attorney doesn't
have their time in? When a client reaches 91 days in A/R?
A.
Yes. You determine how often you want to be
notified. The notifications are based on real-time data, not yesterday's
data.

What does Omega Legal use for its database?
A.
InterSystems Caché™, an object-oriented,
post-relational database that is open and therefore, ODBC and
SQL-compliant. There are more than four million users worldwide in some
of the largest companies in the world. See our Technology page
for more
information.
Q.
What are the hardware requirements for Omega
Legal?
A.
Only a single server is required. We support
Windows 2000, XP and Vista. Please see our hardware
specifications.
What size firms does Omega support? What size
firm is your software geared for?
A.
Omega can support any size firm and there is
no upward limit on the number of users or offices that can be supported.
Q.
How is Omega Legal priced?
A.
Software licensing fees are based on the
total number of timekeepers (attorneys, paralegals, individuals tracking
billable or non-billable time) and the number of concurrent users on the
system. Annual maintenance, data conversions, project management
services and training are additional.
The smallest configuration of the system starts at $21,500 and
includes software, Caché licenses, first year maintenance, training
(Omega University), and project management fees. Data conversion is
additional.
